Since #PyLaia is open source, it should be possible now to recreate this training on my own desktop with the same parameters, and apply the model to recognise new pages, and from there figure out a workflow to simplify getting handwritten notes into plain text for reference or publication.

Has done any of these stages? Any pointers?

I had a student prep his data for the #Transkribus text/image aligner tool before I discovered it no longer works. So tonight I'm the algorithm. On the upside, the data is a rather charming look into how natural history museums got specimens at the turn of the 20th century. #DigitalHumanities

I had not previously tried a #Transkribus model with a similar handwriting but different language, but even without a language model as such, it feels like the transcription model really, really wants this to be Dutch text (e.g. letters co-occurring that are more common in Dutch than English). Filing this under "nope, start over". #HTR #DigitalHumanities

We have published a new #GroundTruth dataset on our GT data archive for South Asian scripts - "Ground Truth Model for Pracalit for Sanskrit and Newar MSS 16th to 19th C.". Trained on #Transkribus with PyLaia. Transcriptions was performed by Dr. Alexander O'Neill (SOAS University of London).
