I'm always happy when reviewers praise a literary translator, especially if the translator is me of course 😃. A friend just sent me a review I don't think I'd seen that lauds my translation of Marilia Samper's play "Happiness," staged in London last fall.

"The beautifully succinct translation by Steven Capsuto, gives the play some local English colour and a powerful London flavour." I'm especially pleased since I'm not even English.

Are there any English>Portuguese translators out there who have some time to take on a ~5,000-word article that would be a pretty solid antifascist mitzvah? There might be some money in it, but not much. (Asking as a fellow translator who’s done a shit-ton of volunteer/underpaid work over the years for projects that don’t have much money, but are worth supporting.)

ICYMI: The #BritishMuseum used an English translation of Chinese poetry for an exhibition and the corresponding print catalogue, without asking for permission or paying for the rights. When the translator asked for credit and payment, the museum acted like, well, a colonizer throwing a tantrum.

Last night, I dreamt I was stuck in a bookshop. Sounds fun, but it was full of books in Farsi, which I absolutely cannot read at all.

As I left in disappointment, I met someone, and in my excitement, I asked if this was indeed X the translator.

And it was. We had a lovely conversation, and I still had things left to say when I woke up.

Now, if anyone ever told you "nobody dreams of meeting translators", you now know they are are quite wrong.

What have you been working on today, @translators?

I've worked on an IT MTPE project. Btw, do you know a good MTPE course? I've heard Trados has something similar, but I've yet to look it up.

I have a Trados license, so I might access whatever they offer for free.

Also, I'm a treasurer at the Brazilian Association for Translators and Interpreters, and we've had our hands full with preparations for our conference, which is only 45 days away.
