Noticing v. anecdotally - in - how quickly 'n often monoligual speakers of English in my context go on the defensive (in their tone of voice - a mix of sarcasm/affront) when presented with non-English sources and references: eg. 'would be nice to have an English plug-in for that!' or 'not all of us are multilingual' and 'I don't feel this is a very inclusive space'.

Can we decolonise our doctoral training (wonkhe.com/blogs/can-we-decolo as well as the comments)?

"When we teach mentoring and coaching skills, we may tell participants to *adopt a paused speech pattern for effective listening*. However, for some cultural backgrounds and ethnicities, reflective pauses in conversation can be perceived as uncertainty, hostility or even rudeness."

Thinking of this also in relation to in practices

Should we?

@isanchezprado This tracks for him, as someone who wrote his dissertation on Beckett and how he chose to write in French to write without style.

I wrote a new to put down some of my ideas. Came across an interesting point by the polyglot intellectual Syed Mujtaba Ali about compound phrasing in Bangla and its parallel to English compound phrasing.

Basically argues that both features emerged because the people had to speak to the foreign rulers and themselves simultaneously:
