Besides Tikhonov regularisation (French transliteration) and Tychonoff's theorem (German transliteration) do we have another instance of a mathematician whose name is commonly spelled two different ways for two different results?

Is there an Arabic-script scheme for ? Seems like that would help for the rtl-transcription problem.

ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%87%D has a table with readings that covers most of the signs, but doesn't seem to a equivalent of the transliteration table in the English article.

Maybe ښ would work to distinguish ẖ?

By the way, Michelle Yeoh in Vietnamese media reports is known as Dương Tử Quỳnh, the transliteration of 楊紫瓊 (Yáng Zǐ Qióng in Pinyin).

Ke Huy Quan is written as Quan Kế Huy, with the family name coming first.

I love . I truly do.

But guys, they didn't have backpacks in the first century.
They didn't have backpacks in the eighteenth century.

Lots of in diction and props, lost of inconsistent transliteration and language use.
People speak with too many twenty-first century idioms, and if Shmuel is Shmuel, then Jesus is Yeshua, Simon is Shimon, and JAMES IS YAKOB, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

But don't get me wrong. I adore the show.

Since ancient Chinese was, and still is, an ambiguous, ideogram based writing system, accuracy is not of paramount consideration. Each character can have more than one meaning, depending on context.

Changing the meaning and connotation of a character, word, sentence or chapter is to be avoided, in my opinion.

For instance, the character 夫 can mean "man," "mankind," or "a person engaged in manual labor," generally. To substitute "she" for this character changes the meaning of the statement and drags the interpretation into the whole modern pronoun assignment controversy.

What's the best way to cite an author whose name spelled using an old convention? For example, a book of Gavril Sarychev (Гаврии́л Са́рычев) was published in English crediting him as Gawrila Sarytschew. I'm sure my should contain the form as published, but should it also contain the original or a modern ? In what order?

Was unaccountably delighted to learn today that the for ‘’, ie. the style, is « (La) nature morte ». It’s like the notion turned inside out and vice versa. .

I've always wondered about this. Does anyone know why some Russian letters get transcribed with a big linking diacritic in library OPACs?

Example:

Руслан и Людмила = Ruslan i Li︠u︡dmila / Aleksandr Pushkin.
