The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing - Live at Download Festival.
Short set rather than one track, and the guitar needs to be louder, but they are a damned fine live band.
Hello people!
Ok, this is my first venture into #TransMusicMonday . I want to start with something classic.
They are Life Of Agony and their frontwoman is Mina Caputo (born Keith). And they rock!

Well, next week’s #TransMusicMonday band should be interesting. Going to go ahead and preclude this by saying filter any lukewarmness you detect in my post through the lens of the Venn diagram between what this band does and what I usually enjoy in music is two circles with a gaping chasm between them. I don’t hate it at all, and I probably “should.” Finding the right song when I don’t even share an alphabet with most of the music (and the exceptions are my least favorites so far) should be fun.
Since I have post deletion turned on, it occurred to me that people stumbling across my #TransMusicMonday posts will only be able to see the last 4 or 5 I posted, which doesn’t seem right, so I’ll be pinning this. I’ve been putting together a playlist over on Spotify of the songs I post. If anyone can’t access this, hit me up, and I’ll happily provide a track and/or band list.

#TransMusicMonday this week is Stick and Poke, a Canadian folk band, both former members of which (band is no more due to them living on opposite sides of the continent) are non-binary. Their music isn’t always this lyrically bitter (the next song on the album is a wistful adoration of summer), but the harmonies on this one grabbed my ears.

Here's a Belgian band called K's Choice, the singer Sam Bettens is a transgender man and came out in 2019. I've known this band for a while, I've still got their 1998 album 'Cocoon Crash' somewhere. Decided to check out their new music. I like this song.

#TransMusicMonday will be Addict Suunshine, a punk/hardcore band out of Colorado. This would normally be where I’d tell you who the trans member(s) are and their pronouns, but I’ve not been able to find specifics, as interviews or other information is pretty sparse. I just know that at least one member falls somewhere under the trans umbrella (see the song Tranarchy, which I nearly posted, for explicit confirmation).
#TransMusicMonday this week will be Loone, a folk band with some post rock influences out of Massachusetts. The entire band falls somewhere under the trans umbrella. They seem to be pretty new on the scene and don’t yet have an extensive discography. If you like the Decembrists and/or Godspeed! You Black Emperor, you’ll probably find something you like in them.
This is pretty damn awesome.
RTing this because I want to give a little credit to some folks.
Thanks to @whalecoiner for finding and sharing this.
Thanks @lily for boosting it onto my feed.
Thanks @AngelaPreston for sleuthing out who this young trans dude is.
And BIG thanks to @sash1e (That is Sasha's tiktok handle) for writing and belting out such a cool song.

Billy Tipton - The Man I Love
I've listened to Jazz all of my life, & a name that came up on compilations was Billy Tipton. But then so did other names, so itwas just someone I had some tracks by.
It wasn't until I got a copy of Positively Phranc by Phranc and heard "Tipton", that I found out the history.

Incidentally, the Queer Music Heritage site has a number of shows covering Trans artists, recorded between 2000 - 2014.
#TransMusicMonday week is A Constant Knowledge of Death, Aki McCullough she/her. This is a band that changes up their sound from album to album, so it’s hard to capture a representative song. I’ve posted from their latest album before, which is fairly straight ahead dissonance-laden death. III-D skews much more industrial. Absolutely fantastic band at everything they touch.

#TransMusicMonday Quay Dash (she/her)
Quay Dash is a New York based rapper (though her most recent single feeling sort of 90s alt/shoegaze suggests she’s likely not “just” a rapper) who appears to be fairly new to the scene (initial EP dropped in 2017). There’s not a ton of her music out there, but here’s my favorite of what I was able to find.
#TransMusicMonday this week is going to be Flummox (Aly Dellinger, she/they, bass/vocals).
They’re an avant-garde-garde metal band out of Tennessee. Mix Les Claypool’s quirky bounce, punk’s “fuck you” energy, NWOBHM’s eye for melodic riffing, and an almost concerningly intense fascination with possums, and you’ve got an idea what this band sounds like. Their first album skews a bit more punk; Reflummoxed is a bit more metal; both are excellent.
#TransMusicMonday this week is Psychic TV
Genesis P-Orridge. Pinning down an exact gender identity or pronouns was difficult, I suspect intentionally (the statement I saw basically said “I haven’t done anything normal in my life; why start with gender?), but I saw they, s/he, and we used.
Their music runs across a pretty wide spectrum, including psychedelic, ambient soundscapes, and doom. Here’s one of my favorites:
That moment when you realize you’ve bitten off way more than you can chew in the artist selected for next week’s #TransMusicMonday post when you normally make a point of listening to the group’s discography.
Ahh well, I can promise I’ll have at least 6 or 7 albums under my belt before I pick a song. I somehow doubt I’m chewing through in the neighborhood of 4 full days of music before next week.
#TransMusicMonday this week will be Backxwash (Ashanti Mutinta, she/her).
Backxwash is a hip hop/horrorcore project that brings in rock, metal, and noise elements to create a consistently hard and aggressive sound. Overall, her music consistently improves with every album. That isn’t to say her early work is bad (quite the opposite), just that she probably hasn’t found her peak yet.

Ötzi, Akiko Sampson, Non-binary they/them
My initial read on this band was that they were a bit post punk/proto-emo by numbers (think The Cure), not bad, but not much for me to say. Upon re-listen, there’s a lot going on here that production choices originally masked to my ears. If an initial listen feels a bit derivative, I’d encourage you to come back to it a few days later and go for a second pass. You might be surprised at what you hear.
