Great article saying „learn from abroad, others have done it“!
While we still need fewer cars by promoting sustainable alternatives, we can’t put new ICEVs on the roads

Have to say I'm glad I bought a car last year. I managed 41 years without one but it's been very handy, particularly in the last few months.

I still walk almost everywhere and drive fewer than 3000 miles a year but I've really needed it quite a few times.

Overall though it would be better if fewer people had cars, or at least didn't need to use them for day to day tasks. Car enthusiasts should embrace this fully as fewer cars would mean clearer roads for them, instead of framing it as a "war on drivers".

We all benefit from walkable cities, and I'm fortunate to live where I do and to be able bodied, I know a lot of people who aren't as privileged as me will always need some form of personal transport.

We need to invest in public transport and active transport at local and national levels, it needs to be cheap and reliable. It will improve people's lives in so many ways, and I've not even mentioned any environmental impact.

Replacing ICE cars with electric cars won't solve problems with traffic, and continues the cycle of consumption. We need to be reducing the need for cars in the first place, so people are happy to not need them.

Hi / / bubbles, I am aware that Mastodon works better with hashtags. Which do you use in your communities, and for what purposes?

I tried to use , but it's a bit lenghty and unspecific.

For policy-related posts, would

work?

Or rather short forms such as

?

And energy-related sub-communities, are there better ways to tag , , ?

Public transport will continue to be cut as "unviable" and investment in greenways and footpaths limited due to cost but there's always money for increasing car use, especially if the on-costs are kept secret.
