The 500K temp. also indicates that exoplanet Trappist-1b does not have an atmosphere. If the tidally locked exoplanet (the same side faces the star) had an atmosphere, researchers estimate that its dayside temp. would be around 400K, as the atmosphere would redistribute heat from the dayside to the nightside.
Note that Mercury clocks in at a much higher 800K, since our Sun is hotter than star Trappist-1.
