Fabulous documentary!
Here's another site where all the parts of this documentary are available: https://thoughtmaybe.com/russia-1985-1999-traumazone/
Gonna say it again, in a paraphrased way:
BBC Four is currently showing Adam Curtis' Traumazone documentary about the fall of the USSR and the way the elite of Russia plundered it as it died, profiting beyond belief as the poor sold their shoes on the street to buy food.
It's as much a historical document as a mirror being held up to the UK, showing us the past 13 years of our history.

I see BBC Four are showing Adam Curtis' Traumazone documentary about the fall of the USSR & how the oligarchs pilfered the remnants of Soviet Russia to enrich themselves..
I can't help but think it's also an allegory for what's happened/is happening here in the UK, where the ruling classes are stripping out public services to enrich themselves (and we're all just tutting as we resignedly sip our tea & try & guess who the Masked Singer is).

I really appreciate watching Adam Curtis' documentary Traumazone. So much strong material speaking for itself.
But there is one deeply disturbing thing, namely the subtitle: "Russia 1985–1999".
It's very misleading, because #Traumazone is only partly a story about Russia.
A large part of the time (maybe 1/3) is spent telling parallel post-war histories about Kazakstan, Ukraine, etc. Countries which are NOT parts of Russia.
In effect, the framing serves to normalize Russian colonialism. Even though much of the content works in the opposite direction.
Just finished #Traumazone, the Adam Curtis documentary about what is was like to live through the collapse of communism and democracy in Russia.
Brilliant but bleak. Definitely worth watching if you have seven hours to spare!

Watching #TraumaZone by #AdamCurtis on YouTube — highly recommended — 7 hrs of the demise of the #USSR and Yeltsin and his Trumpian oligarchs, cronies, and clown cars, who paved the way for #Putin. No wonder #Russia can’t conquer #Ukraine.

For those of you wondering why #ElonMusk would gleefully piss away billions just to destroy his investment I highly recommend any (and all) of #AdamCurtis’s recent documentaries: #HyperNormalisation (2016), #CantGetYouOutOfMyHead (2021), and Russia 1985-1999: #TraumaZone (2022). You can find all of them on YouTube or (probably) through the BBC.
Here’s a compilation of clips I made from the middle one because I wanted to remember it (and am also a huge nerd.)

#CarlSagan once said, “You have to know the past to understand the present.”
It is with this in mind - during the #present #instabilities in the #world, and in particular regarding #Russia, that I would recommend #watching the series #TraumaZone by #AdamCurtis. There are 7 episodes, each 1 hour long, taking viewers from 1985 to 1999, covering the fall of #communism and the rise of #Putin.

Just finished watching Adam Curtis’ epic #traumazone, a 7 part compilation of BBC archived film material about the fall of communism and democracy in #Russia 1985-1999. https://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/traumazone-2022/ There is a clear line from what happened in Lithuania (1990), Georgia (1992), Chechnya (1993) to the war in #Ukraine and we all looked the other way. Tragic.
#AdamCurtis has a new documentary called #TraumaZone. It's about the Soviet Union, starting from 1985.

Just finished watching this 7 hour doco last night the recent history of collapse first of communism and then of the democratic process in Russian.
10 years of gruelling and brutal experiences for SO many while the ascendancy of the oligarchs to position of near total power in that reformation process transform the country.
A really import series for a catch up on recent Russian history.
A search here on #traumazone turns up nothing. So, here's something.
Adam Curtis on the fall of the Soviet Union's worrying parallels with modern Britain
Finished watching the latest #AdamCurtis series, #TraumaZone last week and I'm still thinking about it daily. Bleak, depressing, and fascinating - like most of his stuff :)
