I'd always pictured the #TravellerRPG XBoat stations as on the fringes of a system. XBoats arrive, make their way to the tender or station, the pilot disembarks from the one XBoat and immediately board another (that had been overhauled and prepared at the station), and continue on, pony-express style. The life of an XBoat pilot must be lonely, tedious, and mentally exhausting, spending years on end in jump space, with brief respites in real space at the tenders.
And another #TravellerRPG #Traveller CT Comet tourism to scale: I also plotted the orbit of C/1680 V1 (βGreat Comet of 1680"), as I'm getting a kick out of trying to imagine the classic traveller to-scale play area to handle objects like C/1680 V1. Side comment personal view: C/1680 V1 is a solar system object, Voyager 1 is nowhere near c1680 aphelion, yet voyager 1 has "left the solar system"? π€·
#Traveller #TravellerRPG (CT) comet tourism to scale. I added New Horizons, Arrokoth and Pluto (along with Eris, which was already there), and the rest of the planets. There's something kind of interesting about the outer solar system in Traveller. it is sort of a no-sophants-land, the vast majority of Travellers are using their jump drives to get to other stars. Even if the outer planets are reachable by jump, why waste the space on the drive - it can be reached in normal space - but not fast
I forgot to include the orbit of Eris in the #Traveller #TravellerRPG Comet Tourism to-scale (1mm=100km) diagram in google earth, so here it is. Once again, many wargaming centers don't include adequate space to handle CT at the scale of the solar system.
#Traveller #TravellerRPG Comet Tourism play area. What does the Comet Tourism game look like so far, and where could we play? I thought I'd plot the paths of the comet and spacecraft (including 3d components) over my local city park (Brentwood Park, Portland, Oregon) thinking we could game there. Regrettably, at the CT game scale the movements of the ship and comet requires a larger park. The size of the play area is probably larger than most hobby wargame rooms, too.
Science and #TravellerRPG master @rob_attirag has a new article about how obsessive-compulsive scientific accuracy should take a back seat to game play and plot hooks.

#Traveller #TravellerRPG Comet Tourism, Turn 444. Along with C/2023 P1, we're 511.3 scale meters from the surface of the Sun, while Mercury is presently 525.7 scale meters from the surface. Total trip journey so far is 1512 scale meters, while the comet has only moved 292.1 scale meters in that time. That's a pretty big CT playing surface needed.
#Traveller #TravellerRPG comet tourism side note (turn 368), more to do with frames of reference than anything this time: one nice thing about the equatorial and ecliptic frames is you can tell which season it is on Earth just by Earth's position. Quadrant 1 (+x, +y) is northern hemisphere autumn, -x +y is winter, and so on. I expanded the view to plot the Tesla Roadster as well.
Last week's #travellerrpg session involved approximately two hours of arguing about whether to give up the mysterious alien artifact that might allow us to jump huge distances or might randomly catapult us deep into the void of space if we can't figure out how it works properly. Followed by 2 hours of SHOPPING at a station full of black marketeers.
Our #dm might quit, but until he does I have a gauss pistol and incendiary ammo for my shotgun, by god. π

Sad news.
#TravellerRPG fans may be interested to know that Mr. Lenat was the one who invented Eukaristo, an AI application which generated unbeatable fleets in Traveller Trillion Credit Squadron.
New article on the inspiration for #Starfield in the #TravellerRPG. Full disclosure, I should have a video on this topic next week. https://www.polygon.com/23843039/starfield-inspired-by-traveller-tabletop-rpg

What rumors does my group hear around the space station?
(They are at Space Venice, outside Imperial space.)

Anyone got any good highport maps?
My characters are at a major shipyard in an asteroid system, but finding a map for a large space station seems difficult.
Iβd love something between DS9 and Babylon 5 in size.

Indeed so!
But my favorite is Ehricke's other brainstorm. Repurposing an SM-65 Atlas rocket as a wet workshop.
#TravellerRPG fans will be amused that the reentry vehicles of the space station inspired William Keith to create the Traveller type S scout starship.

#RPGaDay2023 Day 24: Complex/Simple #RPG you play.
Complex: this will probably be #Pathfinder2e. The core mechanics are straightforward but the additional elements add another layer. Iβm happy to play it but I doubt I could run it.
Simple: #LiminalRPG (and, therefore, #TravellerRPG). An easy 2d6 plus skills again a target number. I really need to get round to writing some bits down for it.

Invasion: Methods
@rob_attirag latest essay on tweaking one's #TravellerRPG universe for more fun. This one is on the topic of facilitating massive fleets for planetary invasion.

Agreed!
As a side note, I will observe that The Shattered Stars by Richard S. McEnroe is one of the best Traveller novels that is not (officially) a Traveller novel. It even has the Psionic Institute.
