Have any DMCs curated a list of service companies that specialize in supporting such events? E.g. coaches, facilitators, chefs, etc.

If yet, has anyone aggregated those lists in an API?

Is it a solved problem and I just don’t know enough about small meetings and events?

A few more thoughts about these Booking data leaks.

Because of rotating front desk staff, most hotel reservation systems are not secured with MFA, and staff is not usually trained on security hygene.

A colleague of mine and I were discussing this article this afternoon, and he's experienced cases where hackers where able to simply call up the hotel, claim to be Booking, ask for the password to the system to "assist with a reservation", and gain access that easily. Hotels are also very resistant to techincal change, since that would affect operations, so it's next to get them to move to more secure infrastructure.

Oh, and of course, every single hotel uses a different technology. It's a very hard problem to solve. The last startup I worked at tried and failed. 🙃

Interesting but imo misleading article from ArtsTechnica about Booking data leaks.

It is clear the data is leaking from somewhere, but for having worked in the travel tech industry, Booking is probably not to blame here. Hotels are running on extremely old tech infrastructure, and security has historically not been a priority or concern. If the leak was indeed coming from Booking, the scale of the scam would be much larger. To me, it seems that individual property management systems, usually on prem at hotels, where hacked and the data used to scam people. Of course that data would include the fact that the booking was made through Booking, and Booking controls enough of the market to make the scam worth it.

I am not familiar with the internal of Booking, but it much have a way for hotels to message their guests, explaining how an email would come from the scammer/hacked system through Booking to the customers. It would be interesting to know how this could be made more secure, if the integration is compromised...
