No Spoilers: Bei #BlackSails fühlt sich inzwischen jede Folge der letzten Staffel wie ein ganzer Film an. So viele Dinge, die jetzt noch passieren; Dramatik pur - und ich sitze hier, diese Beschreibung der Serie als "Prequel zu #TreasureIsland" im Kopf, mitfiebernd & rätselnd, wie die Figuren alle noch auf ihre Startpositionen für die eigentliche Geschichte kommen. Mindestens einmal bin ich jetzt aber sogar richtig überrascht worden und muss neu überlegen. Uff. Aber jetzt: Viva la revolucion! 🏴‍☠️

Grade zum ersten Mal die #Muppets-Fassung von #TreasureIsland (1996) geschaut. Herrlicher, temporeicher Musical-Unsinn mit ein paar originellen Abweichungen von der Vorlage, einer löchrigen vierten Wand & ein paar guten Witzen. Selbst die beiden Dauernörgler sind mir bislang nicht allzu negativ aufgefallen. Das Beste sind aber mit Abstand die Ratten auf Kreuzfahrt mit Gonzos "Rat Cruises" ("We bring the 'rats' into 'Pirates'!") und Hans Zimmers Musik. A very random question but something that came up since my son is suddenly Pirate-obsessed: Which film adaption of Treasure Island is "your" Treasure Island?

The first one I saw, and still my favorite, is the 1990 version with Charlton Heston, Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, and Christian Bale.

Der Epilog alleine (Folge 26), der in dieser Form in der Vorlage überhaupt nicht existiert, ist so unglaublich traurig, und kontrastriert das kurze Abenteuer auf #TreasureIsland mit dem wahren Leben der Charaktere danach. Hier steckt soviel drin ... Erfolg, Krieg, Familie, Einsamkeit, Tod. Wie kann es sein, dass man am Ende mit einem Zeichentricktier soviel Mitleid hat? 🦜

Falls ihr euch fragt, was denn nun den täglichen Serien-Slot belegt, den vorher #PiratesOfDarkWater innehatte: ein längst überfälliger Re-watch des #TreasureIsland-Anime von 1978. Einer der wundervollsten Animes überhaupt! Der Stil erinnert mich an die alten #CaptainHarlock-Folgen, die deutsche Synchro ist pure Kindheit, die Geschichte inkl. der Figuren sowieso ein absoluter Klassiker. Und mit 26 Folgen hat die Serie auch genau die richtige Länge.

(Sadly, there is only and exactly one non-male-identified character in this great classic. Regarding to gender-roles, Stevenson was a child of his time, I fear. But I guess it would be easy enough to modernize the tale?)

The 8000 new homes this project creates (~1/3 set aside for low income), is about three times the amount of housing the entire city of San Francisco adds in a year. That's too good to pass up -- we desperately need the housing.

So long as they stick with the good urban design principles: dense walkable neighborhoods, protected bikeways, multimodal people-centric streets, etc. If they start building massive parking lots for cars, then you know it's a flimflam.
