In Treblinka, the gas chambers of the Nazi extermination camp are being uncovered.

Recent excavations have revealed the gas chambers of the Nazi extermination camp at Treblinka, east of Warsaw, where almost 900,000 people, almost all of them Jews, were gassed between 1942 and 1943.

Yesterday was #Holocaust memorial day. On the 27th of January 1945, the Red Army freed the #Auschwitz concentration camp, which is probably one of the best known concentration camps. The second largest camp, #Treblinka, is far less known. It had far less survivors. When the Red Army freed Auschwitz, they found several thousand survivors (around 1.6 Million people had been killed there).
Only between 60 and 70 people survived Treblinka.

My mother and her parents were among 979 Jews deported on transport VII/2 from Düsseldorf to Theresienstadt on 25 July 1942. Only 61 survived.

On this International #Holocaust #Remembrance Day, I would like to draw particular attention to all those on that transport who perished in #Theresienstadt, #Treblinka and #Auschwitz.

Das Ehepaar Wahl wurde mit dem 1. Alterstransport am 17. August 1942 ins Ghetto #Theresienstadt deportiert. Josephus starb dort am 30. August 1942. Bertha Wahl wurde nach dem Tod ihres Mannes am 21. September 1942 weiter nach #Treblinka deportiert und dort ermordet.
