U.S. low-income neighborhoods have 15% less tree cover & are 1.5⁰C hotter than high-income areas. The urban Northeast has highest inequity: some areas have 30% less tree cover & are 4.0⁰C hotter. Areas with more white residents & fewer low-income residents have more tree cover. $17.6 billion in tree planting could close the tree cover disparity, benefitting 42 million people living on low-income blocks.
