I don't know what our front #flowering #tree is - can someone help me with this #TreeIdentification ? Multiple hummingbirds have nested for years in this tree - it's their fave tree to nest in. It's been on property for ages - I'm guessing it's at least 80-90 yrs old. Very healthy. Reminds me of crabapples but produces no fruits - only flowers.

While at a new-to-us lake this morning, I was able to test out Seek to identify some trees that we’ve never seen before.
The bark on the American Persimmon tree is so fun. It’s like little dots were attached to the trunk one by one.
The bark on the Shagbark Hickory is also unique and truly lives up to its name.

A good tree identification book to check into: Sibley Guide to Trees.

Another helpful guide, specifically for Michigan: Michigan Trees by Burt Barnes and Herbert Wagner (my college professors).

My first #ThickTrunksTuesday post! I don't think I framed the shot correctly for scale, and I'm terrible at estimating distances, but this is an absolute unit. It'd take two people with arms outstretched to get around the base. I'd be interested if anyone can ID the tree; I'd love to be better at #TreeIdentification!

There are quite a few of these beauties near the bay shore where I live. I haven’t yet successfully identified what kind of pine. Anyone? I see them in pairs or small groups and can’t help bet wonder if they’re highly social #introverts…like me.

Winter is here! Time to brush up on our #evergreen #treeidentification skills.
The Incense Cedar (C. Decurrens) and Western Red Cedar (T. Plicata) are both in the Cypress family - and are easy to confuse.
Our tip? Look closely at the scale plates! #iSeaTree

Mastodon, help me identify a tree from my childhood memories.
In Haines City FL, my great grandmother had a large tree in her back yard that had dark purple/black berries, and waxy pointed spade leaves that smelled like menthol when you broke them.
