This pic is from the Karlsaue in Kassel. The parc was built by Landgrave Charles between 1654 and 1730. It was redesigned as a landscape garden in 1785 and shows a mixture of visible Baroque garden elements and arranged “natural areas“.
Here’s a canal with trees

From the 6th to the 10th century, the "Spieß" hill was considered a district border. Up until the 15th century, the Landgraviate of Hesse bordered the County of Ziegenhain here. In 1430, the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig I had the Spießturm built to secure the border. On the pic the tower is hidden by a one of the giant trees

@PavelASamsonov trees have an incredible diversity of strategies when they drop their leaves to optimize against early cold falls or warm late autumns.
At a population level it's incredibly adaptive. The longer they hold their leaves the more photosynthesis they can do, but the more at risk they are to storms.
And when leaves change they are actually reclaiming resources that will get saved for next year.
Complex adaptive systems are awesome. #treenerd
