The tree peony is blooming...always one of the most brilliant.
When I planted it, the small plant came up for 5 years...no blooms. Then one year, it had made its adjustments and has been blooming ever since.
It's quite a stunner, but not for anyone impatient.
The flowers are like something out of a tropical rainforest, at least 7-8 inches wide.

December Flower Advent Calendar for the 23rd - "Hephestos" tree peony, hybrid by Daphnis. Large dinner plate sized blooms, deep green heavily cut foliage, and one of my favorite plants.

For the December Advent Flower Calendar, here is a favorite lutea hybrid tree peony, "Hephestos", introduced by Nassos Daphnis in 1977. We moved this plant in 2017, and it loves the new garden location.

Another favorite tree peony for the December Flower Advent calendar. This one is called "Shimane Chojuraku", a lovely purple and pink Japanese #TreePeony. It has long lasting dinner plate sized blooms.
