Above and upon

The feature sure looked like a on view, and a ground check confirmed it. Probably a late or early intrusion into Dedham , as rifted. At Black Rock , , , USA.

Satellite view from , by me.

One mass extinction later, the archosaurs are diversifying all over Triassic Pangaea. Here we have the three main groups of them: Paratypothorax, a pseudosuchian in the background; Peteinosaurus, a pterosaur on top of the cliff; and Procompsognathus, a dinosaur climbing the cliff.

New features sharp claws and a beak
Non-flying precursor to shared the Earth with the first . Venetoraptor gassenae is the name of this new species of , that lived about 230mya in . The beak appears to be without teeth, although they may not have been preserved. Team suggests it could use it to eat hard fruit or tear flesh from prey. In extant birds, beaks help with vocalization, thermoregulation, & sexual display

random thought about Permian and Triassic climates: To me, the huge ocean Panthalassa seems like a good recipe for huge atmospheric rivers: it was huge, it had lots and lots of warm water, and in warm climate the air could take up a huge amount of water. (This is how I imagine the Carnian pluvials, for example.)

An article about modern atmospheric rivers, for reference:

Art from a few months ago of a a weird animal from the period. Like a lot of Triassic animals it looks more like a sci-if creature than an actual animal 😂

Exceptions to the temperature–size rule: no Lilliput Effect in end-Permian ostracods from Aras Valley (NW Iran)

Body size changes of ostracods in the Aras Valley section are evaluated in response to the drastic warming during the end-Permian mass extinction at three taxonomic levels: class, order, species. Individual species to instars do not show dwarfing similar to some experimental studies.

A mother Dinocephalosaurus orientalis giving birth in the coastal seas of Middle Triassic Asia. The aquatic Dinocephalosaurus is the first archosauromorph known to be viviparous, although Metriorhynchid Crocodyliforms also evolved viviparity separately

This is an illustration for my book (still in preparation) and it is still a WIP, although almost finished

A happy Henodus encounters the Triassic fish Saurichthys. Although it looked like a turtle, its carapace was not connected to the ribs and was made up of many smaller bone-plates, whereas in turtles it consists of a few large plates fused to the ribs. Henodus could also not retract its head and limbs into its shell. Uniquely among marine reptiles, it was a herbivore.
