#ironman tragic and unnecessary

The organisers of a half #Ironman race in Co #Cork that two competitors died in were told by the national governing body for #triathlons that the event could not be sanctioned following a water safety assessment, #Triathlon #Ireland has said.

The guy who died yesterday, doing the Swansea #triathlon ... I was there, taking part. Didn't see any kerfuffles in the swim waves before us. So he must have been in my wave, meaning we swam together.

I didn't see anything happening around me - you just focus on swimming straight, on navigating the buoys - then on getting your ass out of the water and onto the bike.

Sad, creepy stuff. Makes me think a lot about why I want to keep doing #triathlons.

For tech, My approach is to use the best tool for the job. I love when that tool is something #FOSS based, and while I use to be very strict that it had to be, I’ve relaxed on that in recent years. I use #MacOS and #iOS for my daily drive. #Windows10 exclusively for gaming and #Linux for all my backend infrastructure. Also an #EV enthusiast.
For gaming, I’m big into FPS games. Most notably #ApexLegends. I use to be active in the competitive scene, but I’m taking a competitive break at the moment. Also did #SmashBrosUltimate competitively.
For #fitness. I use to do #triathlons. Now I #run and do #crossfit style #HIIT and Lifting.
I’m also exploring hobbies in #photography and #music.
