The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world.

When you're a descendant of white settlers on other peoples' land, as a lot of us Americans are, how do you think of yourself? This is not a do-over for Western Europe and we're not Europeans. So just who the hell are we? I think that's the heart of a lot of our problems. Identity. If we could just start from the position that we're all human beings, that would be a good start.

Because is not sustainable, as painful and fruitless as it sometimes feels, we must continue trying to engage with those we disagree with. While we maintain for our mental health (especially with family & friends), demands that we acknowledge the beliefs of others and their right to hold those views. As Diana Eck asks, "How do I share a world with those whom I do not share a worldview?"

A quotation from Serling, Rod:

«««««
I happen to think the singular evil of our time is prejudice. It is from this evil that all other evils grow and multiply. In almost everything I’ve written there is a thread of this: man’s seemingly palpable need to dislike someone other than himself.

"Terror management theory is particularly relevant to current political events because it provides a scientific explanation for tribalism. The theory suggests that in the face of threat or fear, we bolster our worldviews, and become more ideological. We also become more tribal, which will strengthen our support for like-minded others, while at the same time making us more prone to aggression toward those who are not like us, and who do not share our worldview."

Any social network has problems with users or the "gatekeepers" (e.g., administration) that the technology (the system) can mitigate or make worse.

This post is specifically about the injustice that I have personally experienced with Mastodon. Whilst this injustice has had little impact on me personally (I would feel no loss if my Mastodon account is deleted), injustice must be openly expressed (if it's to be mitigated).

The following (in quotations) is a word-for-word conversation that caused the outcome that the admin from the ecoevo.social instance "asked" me to leave. This is the second time I have been "asked" to leave a server for, what I know, was me speaking out against prejudice (For non-racist people, the "color" - is not relevant. We don't take sides!)

Furthermore, whilst I have now left the ecoevo instance, the complaintive (I assume) has now also sent a complaint to the new instance I moved to (because the admin contacted me & asked "Was this you?")

So, I know that my intention was merely pointing out that using a generic term, for example, "white people" "black people" "women" or "gay" as a premise, followed by a negative connotation, is the definition of being prejudiced (bigoty).

However, maybe other people perceive the conversation differently. So, what do you think?

The conversation

Complaintive "I don't know about white people using the term "ancestor" they way they've heard Indigenous folks use it, yknow?"

Me "Descendants & Ancestors are common words used in many languages & the science of evolutionary biology. If you define my character negatively as a "white person" - that's the definition of racism (but, yea, some "white" people are bigots). Race isn't real! Simply the ignorance of some people."

(FYI, I can understand how that may be misconstrued. So, of course, there are people that have racist views - but, biologically, "race" isn't real. In other words, racism is ignorance!)

Complaintive "thanks for letting me know to block you ^_^ racist shithead"

Me " As l thought. A racist in word & now action".

Please review the general "chatter" of the complaintive ecoevo.social/@empiricism/1104

The complaintive evidently keeps referring to "white people". Not some white people, but all white people.

However, the eco.social admin took the view that I was "escalating" an argument, rather than speaking out for all people that have experienced racism (regardless of their skin color).

It would seem that rather than aim to mitigate racism, some (that means not all) Mastodon admins are merely trying to silence anti-racism activists. Yet permitting racist slurs against all white people. To reiterate, I'm not defending "white people". I'm being anti-racist.

Whilst the complaintive appears to have had some negative experiences with white people, the antidote to that is to inform them that not every "white" person is racist (if that's what they believe). Though, emotive-based beliefs can be very difficult to mitigate.

For example, the negative life experiences that some people may have had with certain groups of people - may be due to the culture they live in (i.e., not white people in general). For the same reasons, I know that in general, many black people are not racist (even though they have more historic reasons to be). I know that because I have had lots of personal experiences with non-racist black people.
