Various Artists: I’m Your Fan - The Songs of Leonard Cohen (1991)

This is an amazing tribute compilation featuring tons of great bands in their prime doing their own unique interpretations of Leonard Cohen tunes.

From the opening track by R.E.M, through The Pixies (which was exclusive to this comp for years to follow) and so many other cool indie rock bands of the time, this one you can play from start to finish and never hear a bad song.

It closes with John Cale’s expanded version of “Hallelujah”, which helped popularize the song even more than the original which came out the previous year (Cohen’s U.S. label refused to release it on his 1985 album Various Positions).

Another great comp / tribute album. Covering the great Roky Erikson. Fittingly released on Halloween 🎃

You don’t have to like or even know Roky Erickson songs to enjoy this compilation of late 80s / early 90s bands, like Primal Scream, R.E.M., Julian Cope, Sister Double Happiness, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

The album was produced with the intention of raising money for Erickson and exposing his music to a wider audience. That's exactly what it did for me. 😃

There are no bad songs here. I love Bongwater’s version of “You Don’t Love Me Yet” (great video for it too!).
