@sam San Francisco also uses the #trolleybus! But our agency is trying to phase them out and replace them with less efficient, lower capacity battery electric buses (boo).

Der Oberleitungsbus war in vielen Städten eine Alternative oder auch Ergänzung zur Straßenbahn. Gegenüber der Straßenbahn entfallen die Kosten für das Schienennetz. Das Oberleitungsnetz ist vergleichsweise günstig und einfach aufzubauen. Es entfallen schwere Akkus, die Bremsenergie kann direkt in das Netz zurückgespeist werden und wird im Gesamtgefüge von anderen Fahrzeugen wieder gebraucht, wie bei der Bahn.

In den 50-ern, 60-ern kam von den USA aus die Entwicklung zum Individualverkehr, deren Lobbys den #ÖPNV systematisch auszuschalten wussten. Diese Entwicklung wurde in Europa übernommen.

Denken eigentlich irgend welche Leute in verantwortlichen Positionen noch daran Oberleitungsnetze wieder aufzubauen? Das wäre auf jeden Fall günstiger als U-Bahnnetze.

Quick design project from earlier this week:

The #trolleybus network in #ČeskéBudějovice. 5 daytime and 2 nighttime routes. The design adheres to geography to a certain extent but still is quite abstract and straight forward for better readability. This time I tried to use subtle paper texture and also some shadows for the information boxes and my credits. :-)

Feedback are appreciated.

@fraggle @finn yep, you're absolutely right! an electric car has 40-70% as much lifetime emissions as a fossil fuel car, which is less than 100%, but SO MUCH MORE than something like, a bus (even a diesel one). and that's before we even take into account something like a trolley or a trolleybus, that have no/a very small battery.
