A former warehouse on Trongate in Glasgow. Erected around 1850, this is an elegant early Victorian building. I particularly like the shape of the windows, with their curved upper corners and the simple, but effective scrolling surrounding them. It's thought to have been designed by James Wylson, who also designed the nearby Saint Luke's Church.

1840s Tudor Gothic gable and finial on 75 Trongate, Glasgow. I love their shapes, and the coat of arms is a cracker, too, especially the fish which are supporting it.

I feel Glasgow City Council has neglected this part of the city centre for way too long and that, regardless of who is running it, should be doing a lot more to bring such buildings back into use. And by this, I don't mean knocking them down and replacing them with generic-looking new buildings, but actually properly bringing the back into use.

Free Renaissance style warehouse at 137 Trongate in Glasgow. Built in 1885, it was designed by James Sellars, an architect who has had a major influence on how the city looks today. It lies boarded up and decaying, and has been for some time.
This is one of several listed buildings in a similar state along the Trongate, a major thoroughfare in Glasgow, and they give the entire area a very run down feel.

The vaulted ceiling above the pavement as it passes through the Tron Steeple in Glasgow. The steeple was built in the early 1600s, but the arches which let pedestrians pass underneath it weren't added until the 1850s. I wonder how many people pass through these arches each day without ever realising what's just above their heads.

The imposing former National Bank building on Trongate in Glasgow. Designed by Marwick and built in 1903, this building is becoming increasingly hemmed in by non-descript modern buildings.

I have got interested in #trongate #php #framework which chose completely different approach compared to existing frameworks such as #Laravel.
But after seeing its author is a confused person blaming some supposed "woke" in every other tweet, I am not interested anymore, thank you very much.

@thisismyglasgow used to walk past it all the time, wife worked at Woolworth a on Argyle St, when she'd finished we walk down Argyle and up High St back to Dennistoun (with maybe a cheeky pint in MacChuills on the way 😂). Good memories of long walks because we'd rather spend money on beer than buses 🍻

J T Rochead's magnificent Scottish Baronial-style building at 60 Trongate in Glasgow which was built in 1854. Despite being in the middle of the city, this style of building really wouldn't look out of place in a remote Scottish glen.
