I'm at 44 deg N latitude, about 9000 miles from the native range of this tropical pitcher plant, Nepenthes. It loves being outside in the summer--favorable humidity and temp, an endless supply of delicious insects. I was worried about how Nepenthes would handle winter here, but it seems happy. Still growing and making new pitchers thanks to the tropical microclimate inside a large cloche.

I saw this dried-out seed case of some sort in the Garfield Park Conservatory, today, but couldn't find any identifying information.

Any ideas? (It was a bit larger than a softball.)
