The funny thing about the goose was they had just been standing in the river, up on one leg, resting. Took a drink and then stretched their wings in a big flap. Which caused them to see me standing there taking pictures.

They started to Honk, repeatedly!, at me for my nerve of taking their picture!

Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk!

Looking south across the river, I noticed an old road followed the bank and at one point jutted out into the river around a large rock outcrop. An impressive rock wall supported the road around the rock, but the river has started to wear away the foundation. Further down the trail, I had a nice view looking upstream and got to watch a train cross the bridge.

This canyon once saw the passing wagon trains of the emigrants as they made their way from Saint Louis, MO over into California from 1844-1850. Due to the winding river, there was over 20 crossings the wagons had to make. Lockwood Loop is near one such historic crossing.

An organization named Trails West has set railroad rails in the shape of Ts with informative plaques on them along the entire length of the multiple emigrant trails that crossed the West.

Sunday the weather was still really nice and I wanted to go for a walk along the Truckee River. The town of Lockwood has a riverside park with a mile long loop trail that I've read has a good population of birds (not this day unfortunately).
