Can you tie a Trucker's Hitch? This is such a useful knot, I wish I had learned it 50 years ago! (The cub scouts have let me down. 😞) I mainly use this knot to tie things to the roof of my car, or to tie tight bundles of brush or cardboard for the recycling truck to take away. You may need to know a few other basic knots, too, but this knot really solves problems.
