That moment where you find yourself hunting down old obscure and out-of-print books on mask and clown from long dead wizards and shamans.
So, you know, Thursday.
If we ever air the sound checks for the #2ClownsInACloset #podcast, we're going to have to apologize for swearing, off-the-record stories, and some noises I didn't know human voices could make.
That being said, it does brighten the drudgery of editing...

Work-related thing currently amusing me:
I have an email in my inbox with the subject line "For that idiot" that is both sensitive and helpful.
#ActualClownInvolved #truetalesofacircusadmin
Caution: being a clown who contact juggles can lead to images with spectacularly misleading filenames.
I just saw a file from 2013 which said "Creepy_Clown_Balls.pg"
I've been countering some doom and gloom by digging around in a photo archive from one of our previous shows, circa 2011-2015.
Past-me and their production team did not really understand sane file naming conventions. I believe there were more than a dozen photographers over the run...which has led me to being absolutely impressed with just how many ways you can get this simple task wrong.
While the clean up is tedious, I'm positively drowning in personal nostalgia.
I have a network drive codenamed "Elephant" which currently appears to be trampling things.
This would be funny if it wasn't wrecking my night.
When we move our walking globe to make room for our gym mats, it was running into this dvd-rom's eject button. Thanks to this ridiculously placed puffy sticker, we can both solve the problem and keep a watchful eye towards accidental button presses in the future.

You can add me to the chorus of people grumpily doing their taxes.
Apparently I need to add "walking globe knocks UPS plug out of wall" to my threat model.
On the plus side, having your speakers plugged into a 'surge protect only' outlet is a terrific indicator that something's amiss.
No jams? No power.

Nothing like waking up to a dead UPS and server right before a winter storm to make you feel an appropriate amount of dread.

I just snoozed a note about an idea for a "pi day" pie throwing workshop.
Maybe next year, :clown:
The drudge-work feeling of having to spend a night scanning legal documents is tempered by the geek win of having gotten my scanner working on #openbsd.
Whomever fixed the sane-backends recently, thank you!

I'm confident that someday my wee primate brain will have a better grasp on the subtle differences between nuanced ideas like "days" and "weeks". In the meantime, there's nothing quite like misinterpreting a deadline by an order of magnitude to inspire some late night productivity.
I spent a chunk of my day, with @avalon 's help, testing various exports of one of our performance videos.
This task is a grueling and ugly business which will make you question your eyes, mind, and sanity as you squint to compare minor differences between files.
On the positive and more exciting side of this experience, we'll soon have a holiday video on our site!
Moreover, if all goes well, we'll likely move to self-hosting all of our videos.
Stay tuned. :)
Context:
What I didn't say to the denier of a client who just raged at me for not being willing to perform at their event during a pandemic.
I've just been asked to roll a d20 to determine what sort of pushups I'll be doing at the gym tonight.
If being a nerd is street credit, I believe we've achieved legendary status here.
After a bit of #TechnicalJiggeryPokery, I was able to successfully restore our troupe's nextcloud server from a backup!
Which meant I got to watch my "before-times" calendar populate the month as if the world had not gone all 2020.
So many cool shows, workshops, and other creative projects lost to doing the right thing.
One might think of it as a kick in the (in this case not) proverbial clown pants.

Today I find some dark irony in the fact that I, a professional clown, am acting as the voice of sanity and scientific reason to a potential client.
Signs you may be in #Texas include the possibility of clowns stepping up to serve as the voice of reason in absence of otherwise sound thinking.

In tonight's edition of weird things the pandemic has led me to saying on the internet...
> Life is a fire hydrant of clickable need, and it's almost a refreshing change of pace to have everything moving slower.
