Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia fame has been working on a reddit alternative called TrustCafe for a few years.
Strong focus on trust and accuracy rather than engagement and likes, with plans to support ActivityPub in the future.
My level of trust in non-fedi or -selfhosted solutions now is through the floor, but Jimmy Wales and the Wikimedia Foundation could appeal to me.

And here's Jimmy Wales secret sauce for community moderation at' #TrustCafe (aka #WTSocial 2.0): new accounts that make a few posts without getting blocked become more-trusted "citizens", and "become eligible for further advancement in the trust rankings.". The more trusted you are, the more power you have.
What could possibly go wrong?
After all he's hoping to "get kind and thoughtful people of good faith involved and running things."
