I also just prefer the feeling of the #BBSHD to the #TSDZ2, but this is also some good rationale: https://jonsully.net/blog/ebike-cadence-vs-torque-motor/
If you want to feel like you're always getting a workout and always pushing, you want torque-sensing.
Cadence-sensing lets you choose whether you want a workout or want to rely more (or entirely) on the motor, because you're trying to get somewhere. I appreciate the choice.
(Of course low-quality cadence-sensing systems suck, but so do low-quality torque-sensing..)
@NewNordicNormal @eeen Yeah, I notice my #tsdz2 (with stock firmware - I'm told that the open source firmware fixes this) does that sudden cut-out thing. I really dislike it.
Then again if I were mixing it up with 40mph car traffic, it probably wouldn't matter whether it was sudden or not. I'd get a usb programmer for it and up the cut-off limit to ~30mph.
Bummed that my #Bafang #BBSHD didn't come with a connector to power headlights.. but I've got my #Cetma Margo with a #TSDZ2 that *does* have headlight connectors, & a dynamo hub on the front wheel. So I can move the dynamo hub wheel onto the BBSHD Cetma Largo, & use that for lighting. The TSDZ2 Cetma Margo can switch to using the ebike motor/battery for powering lights.
But seriously, why would you make an ebike motor w/out light connections? (newer BBSHDs now include connectors, I think)
#BBSHD vs #TSDZ2 (ie, cadence-sensing vs torque-sensing ebike pedal-assist, respectively) is interesting. My experience was with Bosch mid-drive motors, which are torque-sensing, so I figured I'd prefer the tsdz2. However, I'm really enjoying the cadence sensing. Basically, I don't want to feel super strong when I pedal at lower speeds, and then suddenly feel like I'm pedaling through mud when I hit the 20mph (or whatever, it's configurable) cut-off. I remember the #Bosch was like that, too.
Biked 10mi on the cargo bike out to Long Island, mostly using the Touring level on the #tsdz2, and didn't even use a single bar on the 48V 12Ah battery. So that's nice. #BikeTooter #ebikes
How about this comparison of the #tsdz2 and #bbs02 @Andres4NY ? Is the open source firmware able to solve the throttle issue? 52V battery / more power? The zigo is a trike stroller convertible bike with a 3sp sturmey archer hub and I'm thinking of making it a manually shifted double tsdz2 (no objection to front derailer but don't care if it won't fit, I just need a chain tensioner...)

Here's what the #Tongsheng #TSDZ2 install ends up looking like on my #Cetma #Margo #CargoBike. I haven't cleaned up the zip ties yet because the battery is only temporary (I'm going to get a smaller one that fits better).
Instead of the standard anchor bracket, I screwed a chain tensioner into that anchor bolt hole (https://cycles.eco/collections/tsdz2-accessories-parts/products/chain-guide-for-tsdz2?variant=) because eccentric bottom bracket + chainstay. There's some foam protecting the frame in case the motor moves.

Rode around town testing the Tongsheng motor on the Cetma cargo bike. Did great tackling hills I would never ride without a motor It was a chilly 28F but nice and sunny. #cargobike #tongsheng #tsdz2 #ebike #BikeTooter #Provincetown

Tons of progress today on the Tongsheng motor install on the Cetma cargo bike. Tuned the eccentric bottom bracket for better clearance of the motor, zip tied the speed sensor, and figured out which side of the chain tensioner the chain goes on! Put the cranks and pedals on and plugged everything together. Test rides were great fun (even though it started raining). #cargobike #ebike #BikeTooter #Tongsheng #TSDZ2
