Went back to twiiter just to see if Tsitsi Dangarembga was still posting -- she did this pretty heroically -- but has confirmed her promise of quitting as the #Zimbabwe election is completed and declared for Zanu-PF. Here's a conversation with her in Hamburg, from the FT, before the election. #TsitsiDangarembga #AfricanPolitics #African #Literature https://www.ft.com/content/944f8e24-84e2-4386-af0e-80c5e8d1e1ca

#TsitsiDangarembga: An extract from the book in Johannesburg Review of Books https://johannesburgreviewofbooks.com/2022/11/15/the-jrb-exclusive-the-first-wound-for-all-of-us-who-are-classified-as-black-is-empire-read-an-excerpt-from-tsitsi-dangarembgas-new-book-black-and-female/
Serious and considered account of Tsitsi Dangarembga's non-fiction book Black and Female -- considering the way it resists the category of #memoir. By Anne Gulick. There are sections in the book I have read out loud to people. She is an original and important writer and thinker, and this book has not yet (I think) been read as widely as it might be. #African #Literature #TsitsiDangarembga #Zimbabwe https://africasacountry.com/2023/06/the-wounds-that-burst-open

“You could say that my relationship with Nyasha was my first love-affair, the first time I grew to be fond of someone of whom I did not wholeheartedly approve.” (from ‘NERVOUS CONDITIONS’)
An intriguing way to look at it. I love Tsitsi Dangarembga’s writing. This trilogy, which I’ve ended up reading backwards, is amazing.

@CiaraNi your postcard reminds me: this is 'Jana Dives' a recent story about a journey to #Aarhus by #TsitsiDangarembga https://yalereview.org/article/tsitsi-dangarembga-jana-dives
I will read anything I can find by #TsitsiDangarembga. This is 'Jana Dives', a new story -- a train journey from Berlin to Aarhus, the irritations of being a mother or a daughter, and a dive into water. I read in an interview that TD is working on a young adult book -- not sure if this story is part of it. #bookstodon https://yalereview.org/article/tsitsi-dangarembga-jana-dives

Each year I aim to read more writing from Africa; mostly catching up. Here's a selection of 100 books from 2020, of which I have read #TsitsiDangarembga's Black and Female. The ones I caught up on were #OliveSchreiner - Undine, 1929 written 1870s, also Jade Munslow Ong's book on her; #ZoëWicomb - Stlll Life, 2020 (with this #MaryPrince - History of Mary Prince, 1831); Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o - Petals of Blood, 1977; #SolPlaatje, Mhudi, 1930. #AfricanLiterature https://brittlepaper.com/100-notable-african-books-of-2022/

Good to see that #TsitsiDangarembga is among those selected by a panel for RSL 200, with 'Don Mee Choi, Annie Ernaux, David Grossman, Jamaica Kincaid, Yan Lianke, Amin Maalouf, Alain Mabanckou, Javier Marías, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, Claudia Rankine, Olga Tokarczuk and Dubravka Ugrešić.' Looking through I see that the theatre-maker Mojisola Adebayo, old colleague of ours at G•ldsmiths was one of the selectors. RSL is open for suggestions for 2023. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/nov/30/tsitsi-dangarembga-royal-society-of-literature-international-writers-award
