Rengidori - "擂木鳥" - [Yokai] - A Tsukumogami of an antiquated wooden pestle. Freed from its mortar, it sprouts wings and flies away!!! - its full story seems to be lost to time, but it seems to be based after an old saying: "擂木が鳥になる" - "The pestle becomes a Bird." it often appears in Edo period board & card games.

In there is a belief that objects can develop a spirit or soul once they reach advanced age. This usually happens around their 100th birthday and it can be seen as a reward for their years of service. The objects are thereafter known as , a type of which basically means 'tools that have acquired a spirit.' If they have been neglected or treated badly they may not be much fun to have around.
