That's unfortunate news. TTC Line 3 (aka, Scarborough Rapid Transit / SRT) is now officially dead, according to TTC officials. They've decided not to re-open the line prior to the official closure that was planned for November 19, since a derailment happened July 24.

Allegedly the line is at the end of its useful life - which is a curious claim since Vancouver's SkyTrain system uses the same technology and is still being expanded and modernized.

So frustrated with Toronto's TTC

It's just not a viable way of arriving to anything with a timeline.

I tried today, I thought with an hour to travel 8 stations in a straight line I might get lucky.

Writing this inside an app-taxi. Deeply disappointed, and most of all with myself for being naïve enough to set my day up for failure by involving the TTC in my plans.

@rexbron @heliomass while they did threaten to withhold funding if they didn’t switch to presto, the #TTC didn’t have fare capping in mind even with their own system. In fact fare capping is already possible with presto, it’s the TTC holding out on making this change.

Another day, Another #ttc shutdown. Yesterday I waited an hour to get a train out of Kennedy, now the trains are stopping at Woodbine, something we only got told when it was too late to get off at any other station before.... uuugh

Disappointed that yesterday's #ScarbTO RT derailment could lead to its early decommissioning. @torontostar I'll bet the train in question is the one that squeals the all the way up and all the way down the line. The rest of the pack is relatively quiet but one is horrendously noisy. "We'll shut down in November. No sense in fixing the trains." Safety? That's a word the #ttc uses but doesn't understand the concept.

Yikes - #TTC SRT had a car decouple and #derail near Ellesmere station

(This is the same technology as the Mark 1 SkyTrain cars, closing in November for a 7-10 year subway expansion project)

Good article, although it has a "both-sidesism" tendency that works against accountability. For example, why single out David Miller because Rob Ford trashed Transit City? More seriously, it's clear that it's the right wingers who are mainly responsible for the mess.

Also, as I've often ranted here, Metrolinx is a big part of the problem and should be tossed into the dustbin. #Toronto #TTC #ToPoli
