Anyone got any tips on monitoring every pin (CTS, DTR, etc) on an #RS232 connection when you only have a cheap Cypress #logicanalyser?
I'm guessing I'm going to need to get a handful of RS232 to #TTL converters so that I don't blow up the analyser with ±12V. But if anyone has a better solution, I'm all ears.

Newer alternatives like the 881 and 1181 are too expensive and/or not available in low quantity (which is true of most sources of the 181 and 382 as well).
The 381 is very cheap, but not available in #CMOS, and produces look ahead carry G/P outputs instead of a ripple carry C output, so I'd have to build my own C for it and an extra chip might nix the cost savings.
Leaving the 74 series for the 40-181 or 40-87 seems like a recipe for voltage and timing frustration.

For an #8bit #breadboard #cpu, I'm considering the 74-181 and 74-382 #ALU chips. The 382 is simpler and newer, but seemingly not generally available in #CMOS. The 181 is older, with more community documentation, and available in HCT family (CMOS with #TTL thresholds). 382 has B-A, otherwise 181 has all the same ops, plus the useful ops !A, !B, and A*2, and less useful stuff like (A|B)+A&!B.
