Tuesday game: ship-to-ship combat night. I got to be captain because 1) I'm one of two charisma based characters, and 2) I had no other relevant skills. π
We did well.
My favorite part? When one of the people we rescued said, "This is the worst rescue I've ever seen!" And our android medic said if he was being rescued that often perhaps he was making poor choices. π«£π€π

31) FAVOURITE RPG: Woash... the most favouritest of all favouritest questions. I really can't pick one, because there are so many games, with so many premises for different moods, and so many memories that are not necessarily linked to a specific game, but to the context around itβ¦
Obviously, once again, I have amazing memories of Qin - the Warring States (you probably figured it out by now). Beyond this, L5R (v1-v5), Pavillon Noir, and Wulin.

30) Most OBSCURE RPG: there was a French non-professional game called Athala, that we played a few times when we were teenagers (in a SciFi setting, as odd as it sounds). I was surprised when approximatively 10 years ago, the game was re-edited in a more professional way. Glad it made through the years alive, although I doubt we will ever play it again!

29) Memorable Encounter: Qin - the Warring States, the official campaign of "Tianxia". There's a specific action scene that requires PCs to hurt inadvertently a very specific NPC while trying to save him. As I was planning the scene, I kinda stressed out and invented a specific sequence of events, as I didn't dare hope that my players would make a proper fumble to justify this (probability: 1%). And when it finally began, [β¦]

28) Scariest game: when we were teenagers, my brother's group organized some adventures of a game called Chill, and that was pretty scary. We were supposed to investigate an haunted house, but we fled to a barn and just tried to survive the night. Turned out we never finished the game.
Now I feel like any game would have done the trick, it was mostly a question of mood.

27) New edition: I was going to say "Qin - the Warring States", perhaps with a more narrativist system and an updated main campaign. That would be amazing.
Yet I read somewhere that a new edition of L5R would be great. And I concur. The v5 system is full of promises but would require some ironing to unleash its potential. Balance, less opportunities.

26) Favourte Character Sheet: A good character sheet is functional. A better character sheet conveys a feeling of the game, potentially through beautiful visuals. I don't mind "visually loaded" sheets: if we are to play a game for months or years, it's worth spending a bit of ink on this. In this regard, I really liked Conan's and Wulin's sheets. The kind of "objects" you keep fondly after you're done, as a commemorative item!

23 ) Coolest looking RPG: That's an interesting one. Since ~one decade, the production value of TRPGs has increased a lot - a bit too much according to some, because it creates a barrier for individuals with less resources - and it's pretty easy to find great layouts and professional illustrations. So the idea is not simply to have that, but also one that is designed with tastes, evocative images and a pinch of originality. And there too, there are [β¦]

22 ) Best Secondhand RPG: I received the full TORG collection, v1, in 2018. After 22 years of roleplaying game, I finally managed to find that one game I've wanted to GM first, before L5R or Maléfices. That setting inspired by Egypt was⦠somewhat disappointing, looking at how cliché the whole thing was (still recovering from the Anubises with laser eyes), although this is mostly deliberate form the authors. Still, happy to have these books!

6th and last of the maps from Bugbear Awakening published on #inkarnate (https://inkarnate.com/m/dw9GvG-glaurachyndaar-myth-glaurach/).
This is Glaurachyndaar, or Myth Glaurach, a ruined elven city located in the Nether Mountains. Although it protected by a mythal, it was overrun by orcs. Later it was inhabited by an army of demon-elves (or fey'ri) only to be abandoned after again.
The city was built on a hill, consisting of 3 concentric circles with the Tower of the High Mage at its center.

21) Favourite LICENSED RPG: we ought to look at Modiphius' lines for this. Friends and I just finished a Dantean campaign of Conan 2d20 weeks ago. I really loved it, but something's holding me off, between the universe I like without loving it and the very interesting system that is still a bit too crunchy for me.
Then we have contenders I did not play yet, but seem promising. Dune, for sure. But also Dishonored. I guess that one is my favorite : [β¦]

19) Will still play in 20 years: I'll definitely still be playing in 20 years, but to what⦠? Probably a game that hasn't been released yet. Or perhaps I'll finally manage to get my "Qin - Tianxia" campaign up, with either the original system, Wulin's system or "Fate - Tianxia" instead.

19) Favourite PUBLISHED adventure: another favorite favoritest questionβ¦ obviously, my greatest memory is Tianxia, a two-parts campaign for Qin - the Warring States. It's involving, evocative, challenging, hard to forget it. Players are also naturally brought into the universe by well-thought situations. The story has some depths, which is a nice departure from generic med.-fan. "Kill the lich" trope. I don't mind it being railroaded, [β¦]

18) Favourite game system: depending on what you're looking for, there are a lot of interesting systems out there. Lately, I was pretty convinced by the probabilities and the fluidity of Coriolis, the crunch and dynamic of Momentum vs Doom of Conan, and the nudge for creativity of FATE. I'm also happy to rediscover Pavillon Noir 2 as a player, because the character creation is quite extensive without being a pain.

17) Funniest game: we had some pretty good laugh with Lanfeust de Troy and Final Frontier, two games where the system efficiently nudges players into "funny" behaviours (the first one by self-sabotaging each other, the other by parodying SciFi tropes). But then I think the funniest sessions happened with non-funny games (like Hunter: the Reckoning). Don't try too hard to design funny games. Players will take care of that themselves, no matter what.

15) Favorite Con ONE-SHOT: as I don't play in convention, I'll focus on the word in bold. 10 years ago, I designed a scenario for L5R inspired by both the alternative history "Heroes of Rokugan" and the scenario of the video game "Way of the Samurai 4". Γ la "Bakumatsu", It's all about Rokugan facing modernity, pondering whether the old ways are still relevant. On top of this, the players would actually go through 5-6 days, then be brought back [...]

14) Favourite CONVENTION purchase: woash... hard one. The closest thing to a purchase during a convention was when I received a book about gamemastering at Orc'idΓ©e 2016 (or was it 2017?), by the French editor Lapin Marteau : "Mener des parties de jeu de rΓ΄le". Good read, especially taken as a toolbox. I often find myself reading it before starting a new campaign!

13) Memorable character demise: Tybalt was a "priest" in Dark Earth, a French TTRPG, during the adventure "La Croisade de la Ville Mouvement". As I already knew the adventure, the storyteller and I decided that Tybalt would be an unwilling "mole" within the group. The last command of his evil superiors was to immolate himself, as to deter the moral of his fellow crusaders. He obeyed, leaving behind a confession (in French: https://anubisarchives.com/une-fin-programmee/)
