I finally remembered what I did with my Buckingham. I put it in a small tackle box to be used for a travelling #DnD #RPG #TTRPG gamemaster's kit. The box is a twin to this one, but without the dividers, from Plano, and it holds my #Filofax, my writing supplies, and paper tokens. The two boxes together make up the kit, and it's within arm's reach of my bed. I'd totally forgotten it was there. #ICRPG

Anyway, I've been setting up a table for a solo scenethat was resolved in two throws. If that's the case, then I'll look for the game thread and update it with the events.

12. A game that changed your perspective about #TTRPG

I would say #MonsterOfTheWeek
That game was my first step into the #PBTA world. And boy I was ... perplexed? At first. Then I saw how it helped the GM with a low-preparation effort and a shared world-building during game.

That game also showed me that I could write things for TTRPG, and that people could like them.

This game has a special place in my heart for opening those two doors.

Talking in another Discord about #TTRPG systems with fewer rolls and math vs. more rolls and math.

I don't like taking them out entirely, I don't like systems where you're just telling stories to each other.

Why not?

Because that's not what I'm here for. I'm not here for your improv. It's going to be a pastiche of other, better sources.

But once we start mixing in some rules and rolls, then it takes us to a place that's more chaotic than your imagination. That's where serendipity happens.

Mike Mason makes some excellent points in this interview about dealing with un-killable monsters in your game.

Every time I listen to an episode of @thomas's Yes Indie'd Pod, I get random ideas about *designing* a game I'll never follow up on, but it's inspiring in the moment and keeps me engaged. His guests are always interesting, and he's always genuinely interested in them, so every episode is a delight, no matter the topic.

Live play has never been my thing, though, but Emily C. Friedman even managed to make them interesting, too! 👍🏽

I've cooked up a tabletop rule kit of my own earlier this year. It plays OK, but I want to work on it more. Going to work on it out in the open, I think? Here's the repo of the base thing: https://github.com/esmevane/evening

It's a melange of 5E, Cypher, and Blades. The core conceit so far in play has been that games work by picking a "format" for the evening, which is the kind of game you want to play. Gameplay is somewhat on rails after that, with modes and phases of play.
