I posted a (messy) devlog for the latest Rosewood Abbey update.

No work done on the Nox Engine today but I haven't done a word count in a while so...
32.6 thousand words so far
Still need to do the social mechanics (Speech!), the antagonist section, GM advice, and finish the Talents, not necessarily in this order
So plenty of words left

The update of #RosewoodAbbey is posted.

aurgh, how many errors can a writer/designer put in a paragraph before it collapse into a black hole and kills us all?
If you are going to use science terms, then either learn something about them (they do mean something you know) or get someone to who do now to read it.
If not, better to use magic languages, or invented words, the advantage of that is also that it is time safe, new science will not make your bad science sound even more pathetic.

Going to playtest my In-A-Wicked-Age-Heartbreaker tonight - I suspect that it could totally crash, it's probably a bit too mechanically intricate to run smoothly. Looking forward to seeing it in action though!
I would like to say I cannot believe I am actually just about ready to post this stupid game to itch.
However, I know myself well enough to know that once the idea crossed my mind it was an inevitable outcome.

I have several #ttrpgdesign projects on the go. So the logical thing is to start writing an entirely new TTRPG, right?
So, work with me while I annoy some historians with Chosen Men. Especially where I add a women’s rifle regiment.
Want to try out MÖRKTOBER this year but not sure where to start with MÖRK BORG? This week's Skeleton Code Machine covers the third-party license, art & design, generators, inspiration, and community links.
This week at Skeleton Code Machine, we look at resources for making things dark, depressing, and weird: https://www.skeletoncodemachine.com/p/making-stuff-for-mork-borg

It is so fun looking through the #SRD I've been working on for the #NoxEngine #TTRPG and getting to the various systems that get me going like, what the hell was I thinking when I wrote this?

Edit: Apparently the video doesn't quite live up to standard journalistic practice: DMs were quoted without consent nor opportunity to respond. I guess I was too quick to deem it good.

I took a break in working on the fonts and ended up writing a truly ridiculous GMing essay for Applesauce about throwing hats and tradeoffs in brain surgery.
I think it's basically worthless because it's very long, and the GMing document "Cooking With Applesauce" will be two pages at most. But I like the jokes. Ah well. I'm sure I'll mine it later for useful fragments. That's always the way that goes. The fingers just needed to type it.
So, my current rules of energy and work seem to be:
When I'm well-rested and energized, I write.
When I'm moderately well-rested and feeling okayish, I design.
When I'm feeling tired and a bit dumb, I do graphics (mapping, page layout, etc).
When I'm feeling utterly wiped out, I work on fonts.
When I'm feeling too sleepy and stupid to do fonts, I endlessly tweak the wording in Applesauce. 😅
Famously in #ttrpg there is Combat as War. Where you are clever to avoid combat or manipulate it beforehand. There's Combat as Sport. Where you cleverly use your mechanics.
What about when you don't have to be clever at all? When we just assume characters are experts and do what is best. And we maybe roll a roll to see how well they do or maybe not at all. Combat as...?
Happens frequently in #PbtA for example. #ttrpgDesign
I'm looking @ Amber Diceless for mechanical inspirations for this players have non-aligned goals game. I like the idea that a lot of factors can affect outcome of play, but that-at the end of the day-it's going to be about power rather than a random roll.
I also want to avoid an off-stage referee. The idea of the in-game community adjudicating a close situation, even preventing the powerful from automatically (or eventually necessarily) winning might replace that random factor.
Way to go Will!!!

(also, thanks for the shout out!)
So. Last time I thought I'd set aside the game of characters with non-aligned goals & instead pick up the time travel game. Which I did. But today something clicked in a significant way in the non-aligned goals game. It went in a direction I didn't anticipate, but which I like the shape of...
It starts with a player collaborative phase, and then moves into a more typical role-playing mode. But the *how* of getting non-aligned PC goals to be fun for players feels good.
I sometimes forget how little is actually required to facilitate a playtest - in a couple of days I have hammered out a couple of pages of a playtest document for my In-A-Wicked-Age-Heartbreaker, and it's extremely crude, but also fully testable.
I mean, it helps that I've stolen The Owe List and don't have to write my own Oracles just yet.
