So a few people have wanted me to show them what Emacspeak sounds like, and what it gives over other speech systems. So I made this example. First is a book, a novel (Resident Evil), so be aware of that when listening. The second is a book introducing Linux. The third is a simple Markdown file, showing how company-mode can help a bit with auto-complete, and how Emacspeak makes font-lock (different fonts for different item types in any text), accessible through voice changes. Along the way, you'll hear how Emacspeak handles punctuation, switching buffers, closing buffers, and other such dialogs. I do have typing echo set to speak nothing as I type, because it's distracting to me.

@GossiTheDog This is espechally a problem since #Accessibility for #MobilePhones is way worse than for #Landlines - and don't even get me started on #Touchscreens and #TTS!

Whereas I'm convinced most #blind people that use phones can dial emergency services on a regular Touchtone keypad and even abled people can do it...

@pingviini Well, the first happens because the authors aren't concerned with their project being ruined by DMCA bullshit (it probably will be, but they don't care because AI-generated nonsense moves fasts and breaks things).

That's a pretty hard problem to solve for mass redistribution for #FreeSoftware #TTS engines.

I'd considered doing it anyway for myself at some point but never got around to it.

So my vision is degrading from years of reading on #shosetsu . Confirmed using my younger sibling as reference in reading text far away.

I have become my own bane, developed the software (shosetsu) to curse me so. (Thanks god I added an extremely intrusive popup every 20m to look away)

I'll be focusing less on my phone screen, and will send more voice messages instead, maybe even use #TTS for messages (gotta develop a better #FOSS client for Android).

I set Home Assistant voice assist as my default on my phone, I'm super impressed with the speed! There's a way to go with the sentence recognition (which I could improve myself or wait for someone smarter to do it).
