Just completed my first tube amp kit. From the big Chinese site.
Was a learning experience, as there aren’t really any instructions, just a schematic.
The chassis is nicer than I expected, but the included capacitors were weird unknowns. I instead used Nichicons for the build.
Heater voltage was a bit high, so installed a couple of resistors (and a pilot light) as the final steps yesterday.
Turned out great! Sound quality is amazing, without any background hum or hiss. #hifi #tubes

got one of these wee guys — 6AQ5 to 6V6 adaptor. 6AQ5s are functionally equivalent to 6V6s, although rated for slightly lower voltage. but good vintage ones are WAY cheaper than 6V6s. the two I tried (brimar and GE) are nice, quite soft and drivey #guitar #valves #tubes #amps

Genalex Gold Lions replacing stock xDuoo in a TA-22. It might just be "brain says new thing is better because it's new thing", but I think I can tell an actual difference. Mostly the midrange seems to have "more body”.
At a minimum, they have more glow, which is also cool.

I decided to hook up a second tube amp into my audio chain, as the headphone amp I was using didn't have enough volume when playing vinyl records. The one on the right is the headphone amp and uses the tubes for pre-amplification, while the one on the left is just a pre-amp but also has treble and bass controls, which is nice to have. Volume is much better, and I can't hear any additional noise at normal volume.
And, too many cables.

Wow. This tube/valve pre-amp/headphone amp I bought for £80? It's simply amazing. Build quality is great, comes with a decent PSU for the UK and the sound quality actually beats my Little Dot MKII, which was really unexpected. I've only used it as a pre-amp for now, and so far it has the least amplification compared to my other pre-amps, but that audio quality is just stunning. All the instruments in the music stand out, absolutely nothing is lost even when the music gets complex.
