I spent most of #Tuesbray with the donkeys: there were some issues to resolve, mostly around food.

This is a four-donkey family and when I reflect on their progress, I always remember the magic time twelve years ago when the two mothers Rubí and Matilde gave birth to two foals Morris and Aitana. My video "Foal Play" just brings back the sheer delight of that time. 😋

The date of this Donald McGill seaside postcard is uncertain: the striped blazer suggests 1930s seaside wear? Again we have the recurring McGill donkey motif.

For non-native speakers of English: "back to front" is the wrong way round (sitting in reverse) and also "back to the front" means returning to the seaside: the sea front. Postcards advertise to the recipient that the sender is on holiday.

Matilde wants to see if there are treats as I unload the car after #Tuesbray shopping trip.

Carrots went up from 69 to 97 cents a kilo, so I bought 30% less. Pre-breakfast carrots will be the norm now. Beer went up from 1 euro a litre to 1.30 so I bought 30% less and spent the same amount shopping.

There's a commercial scam happening right now, so the answer is to simply buy less.

Today's donkey complements yesterday's photo of my donkey Aitana wearing a pack-saddle (see DotD 82). It might even be one of her ancient relatives?

It is a reminder that donkeys have been carrying loads with pack-saddles for about 7,000 years. Considering that millions of donkeys kept the Egyptian economy working, they appear relatively infrequently in art compared with other animals.

Donkeys in almond blossom. This year the almond blossom in Alicante began early due to unusual warmth, then was badly affected by sub-zero temperatures. There are only a few trees left in blossom around here, mostly in protected frost-free patches. Almonds are used in production of turrón in Xixona, a local nougat.

Warning: On no account should donkeys eat the blossom! It is poisonous. This is a managed photo-shoot with Matilde and Rubí supervised!
