#TuesdayTravels: Dürnstein in the Austrian Wachau on the #Danube. On this day in 1192 Richard the Lionheart was captured & held in this castle by Leopold V, Duke of Austria, after a dispute during the 3rd Crusade. The Augustinian abbey church was rebuilt in the baroque style in 1710.
#TuesdayTravels on #StNicholasDay. This is the grand Sint-Niklaaskerk in the centre of #Ghent in #Belgium. Built close to the Korenmarkt (Wheat Market), the enlarged 13th century Church housed guild chapels for the trades whose activity brought prosperity to the medieval city.

#TuesdayTravels: the #Acropolis as tourists rarely see it! In Sept 2018 we landed in #Athens in the wake of a cyclone that had caused mayhem in the eastern Mediterranean. The aftermath was dull & wet. But the city & its antiquities were as splendid as if the sun were blazing.
