I installed the #merlinapp for identifying #birds today. In under 2 minutes of Sound ID it found 6 birds around my garden, even with traffic and other noises in the background. 🤩
I confirmed those four birds where I'm very sure that they are correct.
It can play back the parts of the #recording that are from a certain bird, so that I can maybe learn the sounds myself. :masto_reading:
The only thing that's a bit annoying is that it displays the bird names in English. The whole app and the description texts of the birds (from #wikipedia) are in German, just the names of the birds (kind of the core thing here) are in English.
Now I just need something that identifies insects and spiders for me.
I know that these are some of the most common, boring birds available, but hey, we're in a large city here and it was just the first short test! 🏙️ 🏘️🐦🦆🦢🦅🦖
