Waterproof #Boots and #Shoes:

Take 1 pound of boiled linseed oil, 2 oz of #wax, 2 oz of #turpentine, and 1 oz Burgundy pitch melted over a slow fire.

With this, [rub onto] new shoes and boots in the sun with a
sponge [until] dry. [Repeat] until fully saturated.

Then the leather is impervious
to wet. The shoes and boots last longer, acquire softness and pliability and are the most effective against cold.
