There are still over 200,000 economically disadvantaged kids in Chicago Public Schools. In 1994 that number was closer to 240k. There's still a great need for organized, volunteer-based #tutor #mentor & learning programs in all of the high poverty areas.

I've been trying to help youth orgs attract workplace volunteers since 1993 with the goal that those volunteers learn from their involvement and then get others involved.

I understand the negatives that are growing on the Bird site, but it's still the only place where I can build a list of #Chicago youth #tutor #mentor programs and use my posts to try to draw attention, volunteers & donors to each of them. https://twitter.com/i/lists/1276149804511506434

Many of these #nonprofit orgs post on LinkedIn, FB & Instagram. Few yet on Mastodon. The other platforms don't have list feature like Bird site.

So I keep using it.

It's the last Friday of August. School has started. Volunteer-based #tutor #mentor & learning programs are reaching out to recruit #volunteers, students & donors.

I hosts lists of #Chicago youth programs at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net and point to where you can find them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

The goal is to help people find and support programs throughout the Chicago area, not just one program.

As school starts every youth-serving organization will be seeking volunteers. Some are more visible, or have better marketing, than others.

Yet, great programs are needed in every high poverty area of #Chicago and other cities.

Thus, my articles aim to motivate resource providers to develop strategies that draw volunteers to opportunities.

When I worked for a national retail merchandising & retail store company we had a team of people who did research to learn where there were potential customers who we might reach with new stores. Part of that research would identify competitors in the area.

Are any cities doing similar research to learn where non-school #tutor #mentor & learning programs are located, how many kids are being reach, where more are needed?
