I created this Violence in Chicago essay in 2015 asking "where will we be in 10 years?" We're 8 years later and not much has changed.
Take a look at how I show maps could be used in planning, leadership, public awareness, resource distribution, etc. https://www.slideshare.net/tutormentor/is-your-elected-representative-using-maps-260154831

Do any of you know of a Mastodon Instance where the focus is #youthdevelopment, #workforcedevelopment, #nonschoolhours #povertyreduction, #volunteering #philanthropy #tutormentor #youthmentoring #nonprofityouthorgs #youthProgramDesign #birthtowork
I have accounts on three Instances, but very few are posting information related to these hashtags.
#youthdevelopment #workforcedevelopment #nonschoolhours #povertyreduction #volunteering #philanthropy #tutormentor #youthmentoring #nonprofityouthorgs #youthprogramdesign #birthtowork
I launched some #birthtowork ideas on the Bird site. I hope you'll boost them here. https://twitter.com/tutormentorteam/status/1688204409279262720?s=20
Better yet, read the articles, then take the lead in mobilizing people in your community to apply the strategies. #socialcapital #tutormentor #nonprofit

MENTOR announced new research about impact of relationship, who you know, and social capital. The focus of the report is on how funders are (not) supporting long-term programs.
Please read the report and share it with your networks. https://twitter.com/MENTORnational/status/1681336369233412096?s=20
Then read some of the #socialcapital articles I've posted on my blog. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/search/label/social%20capital
#socialcapital #nonprofit #youthdevelopment #tutormentor
I'm not sure I agree w your comparison. If I search #tutormentor on the web I find far more sites than I find so far on Mastodon.
If I build an email list I can send a newsletter & reach far more than I can on Mastodon (& probably on Twitter).
I'm never likely to host an instance. I visit this place daily & browse the feed. I find many interesting post, but few focused specifically on #nonprofit or #youthdevelopment.
Whereas my lists on Twitter point to hundreds.

I posted this Tweet today, pointing to an article on my #tutormentor blog, which shared info I learned about from tweets by others. https://twitter.com/tutormentorteam/status/1674493768366432261?s=20
On my blog I show how I archive this information in a library I started in 1990s which is available to anyone who wants to learn more about race, poverty, inequality and the role organized, volunteer-based youth tutor/mentor programs can have.
I shared a few Tweets today that point to articles on my #tutormentor blog which focus on program design. https://twitter.com/tutormentorteam/status/1672240519412367362?s=20
While kids in rural areas and reservations need organized support systems I've focused on big cities which have concentrated pockets of poverty surrounded by different levels of affluence. Every city with more than 1 million probably could use the strategies I've been sharing.
Take a look. Share. They are free.
I've shared this graphic since 1990s, visualizing a place in a neighborhood where k-12 kids connect with volunteers & learning experiences that help them through school and into adult lives. See it in article at https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2022/03/20-years-of-failed-education-reform.html
What if leaders had adopted and sustained this commitment for the past 30 years! Would we have the levels of poverty and violence that we have now?

Doing extra reading on #JuneteenthDay? Here are two articles I posted on the #tutormentor blog in 2022 and 2021. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2022/06/follow-up-to-juneteenth.html
Every #FathersDay I celebrate my biological family and my #mentoring family. This is from today's #tutormentor blog article at https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/06/happy-fathers-day.html

I've been writing #TutorMentor blog since 2005 but have used the Internet since mid 1990s. Here's a Jan 2020 article where I point back to 2010, then 2000. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2020/01/looking-forward-to-next-decade.html
I wish I could find 100 other people in #Chicago & other cities writing exactly the same articles, with the same goals, for the past 20+ years.

I posted a response to a post on Twitter, with a link to one of my blog articles. I was delighted to see the response I got. https://twitter.com/JuliaFliss/status/1661884452933623808?s=20
I keep looking for people on Mastodon who use maps and take a #systemsthinking approach to helping kids move through school and into adult lives. I use #tutormentor #youthdevelopment #maps #nonprofit as possible hashtags.

Good morning Mastodon. Are any of you talking about #youthdevelopment #birthtowork #workforcedevelopment #poverty #inequality #tutormentor #nonprofit or #maps?
Those are all related.
#youthdevelopment #birthtowork #workforcedevelopment #poverty #inequality #tutormentor #nonprofit #maps
My daily visit to Mastodon, Twitter and other social media platforms aim to connect me with people who have various talents, and who are using those skills to help build and sustain mentor-rich non-school programs, helping kids in high poverty areas move through school and into adult lives.
I visualize this with concept maps like this. https://cmapspublic.ihmc.us/rid=1238727620187_1999034880_30242/Tutor%20Mentor%20Connection%20Network%20Analysis%20-%20Skills.cmap
Sadly, I don't find nearly enough people who make this their daily mission.

WBEZ posted an article yesterday about the promises made in 2011 when Chicago's Mayor closed 50 inner city schools. https://graphics.suntimes.com/education/2023/chicagos-50-closed-schools/
I checked my #tutormentor blog to see what I had written in 2011 and reposed one article yesterday. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/05/chicago-school-closings-2011-and-now.html
Since the 1990s the city could have been investing in mentor-rich non-school programs reaching kids in all high poverty areas. They did not.
That's one reason for the violence today.
Good article.
Here's a graphic I created in mid 2000s to show flywheel as part of a "Good to Great" philosophy. You can see it in this #tutormentor blog article.
https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2011/12/good-to-great-philosophy.html
One book that has influenced my thinking is "The Starfish and the Spider" by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom. It describes the strengths of decentralized organizations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Starfish_and_the_Spider
I've been building a web library since late 1990s to aggregate info others can use to solve problems. While my primary focus is on helping youth via organized #tutormentor programs, I collect info on a wide range of influences, including #ClimateChange.
I've been aggregating links on this blog article since around 2017. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/search/label/climate%20crisis
On Sunday night I had a detailed, step-by-step dream about the planning process needed to get from "here" to "there".
I could not remember all the details in the morning, but found this graphic and a video I'd created in 2017 that shows most of what I was dreaming about. It's on my #tutormentor blog.
https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/04/how-do-we-know-when-we-are-there.html
If I add followers here on Mastodon at the same rate I added them on Twitter I'll be 90 (I'm 76 now) by the time I reach were I am on Twitter today.
I'm looking at #nonprofit #youthdevelopment #tutormentor #workforcedevelopment #maps etc daily to try to find people talking about issues I care about.
Not seeing much.

New article on #tutormentor blog, inspired by #ETMOOC2, #CLMOOC & @dogtrax
https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2023/04/create-webquest-to-learn-ai-tools.html
I've been a "whisper in the wilderness" for the past 25 years sharing ideas & strategies intended to help youth in high poverty areas get expanded networks of support that help them through school into jobs.
Yet, too few people have seen these, or understand what they see. So I've asked interns to create their own interpretations. It's a "Web Quest" -- something thousands could use AI to do.
