I’ve posted about this band here before, but I just heard this song and recalled hearing it used in a commercial for Volkswagen many years ago. I like when indie bands get paid.

It’s got an infectious chorus guaranteed to give you an earworm. Typical of this band. Their lyrics are clever and humorous, delivered with hard to resist pop melodies.

Twee-Pop is een subgenre binnen de Indie scene, bekend om simpele en zachte melodieën, wel gecombineerd met het betere gitaarwerk.
Het genre bestaat al sinds midden '80, met groepen als Primal Scream en The Pastels.
Maar de roots gaat terug naar de sixties met bands als The Byrds en Lovin' Spoonfull. Maar vooral was er een sterke invloed binnen de post-punk, bij artiesten die een afkeer kregen van het macho gedoe en macho rock, waaronder Television en Jonathan Richman.

Ze kregen op een jaar tijd een hele cultaanhang, en hun debuut album werd heel goed onthaald.
Een jaar later gingen ze al uit elkaar, maar waren een grote inspiratie voor de volgende generatie #TweePop bands.
