@RantyHighwayman #Ivory (subscription) works very nicely and feels like #Tweetbot of bird-site times long ago.

Every now and then I’ll open up #TweetBot just to see the final goodbye animation.
@oscb @CodingItWrong Holy crap! I was an Echofon user, too, but forgot about it because it’s not listed in my purchases anymore. Used it until #tweetbot won me over. Couldn’t stand Tweetie (I still really don’t like pull-to-refresh and hidden functionality), and Twitterific just never did it for me.
A chronological timeline of just people I follow is table stakes for me to use a social app. Which is why #Tweetbot was great, and the official app was less so.
It’s a given Meta will similarly always want to push celebs and influencers. If the fediverse becomes just a 3rd party API for Threads, in a narrow view, that’s not the worst thing.
I’m optimistic we can keep the things that are great and unique from here, while letting in just enough to make things interesting.
I pretty much checked out from birdsite after #Tweetbot and other 3rd party apps got canned due to API restrictions. It just wasn't the same.
#Tweetdeck was the only thing left that made birdsite usable—the OLD version—and I pretty much just used it to keep track of deals by that point. WAY too many ads and too much algorithm in their app/site, ugh.
Now it's gone, too... and so am I, at least from there. Hopefully I will enjoy it here on Mastodon now that I'm ready to fully give it a chance.
@Twiteryeanot i tried them in the beta for iOS but landed on @ivory since it filled the hole of #Tweetbot for me
Did I say #Tweetbot - I meant to say that he's killed #tweetdeck which has always been so much better than the standard interface
Welcome to #Mastodon (well actually GNU / #Fediverse)! There are no quotes; images load most of the time (on lucky days); you can only see half of the replies to any toot but your own (on lucky days); trends are useless; bookmarks magically disappear (they probably don’t spark enough joy); CWs are used so excessively they become meaningless (just tell your client to always display everything); but at least there is no #Elon, and you can continue to use #Tweetbot (which is now called #Ivory).

@christianselig Thank you. It's been a good ride. It was the one app I used the most on a daily basis.
Between #Apolloapp and #Tweetbot, it's forced a lot of people to look around for other interesting services (like #Mastodon).
Hopefully, a cautionary tale to all future API providers on how to deal (or not deal) with third-party apps.

I've been going back and forth on whether to get an #ivory subscription or stick with #mammoth on my iPhone.
Honestly quite impressed with Mammoth considering it's a free app - and more customizable than Ivory from what I can tell. But I do like the idea of supporting the #tweetbot devs.
Any opinions on which to go with and why?
Man this is a real bummer. The platforms make shitty iOS apps and folks behind apps like #Apollo and #Tweetbot produce far superior clients with a fraction of the staff. The reason is simple, they are motivated to build the most pleasing user experience possible and that is their primary focus. The default Reddit app sucks very badly. https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/
