@rand
You can take it at your own pace! For sure, you own the feed and you can get what you want out of it.
I know for myself, a few check-ins and a diverse enough feed to get up to date 'takes' on events I missed while I was sleeping keeps satisfied without the #Twitteralgorithm.
It took a few months for my news feeds to recover from the move, but Flipboard + Mastodon gives me plenty of news!
@debe Same. I used to wake up with anxiety about things I read, then doomscroll for an before work while sipping coffee. Put me in a horrendous mood all morning.
With the #Twitteralgorithm gone, I am free. It lowers my stress measurably and dramatically. The bird site is slowly killing people with stress.
I can tell you that if your #twittermigration timeline isn't holding your attention like the #twitteralgorithm used to, that's probably healthier for your stress levels. The #Fediverse is vastly different when you follow more people. Without the #twitteralgorithm to inject randos, you need more followers all around the world for nonstop posts.
Use a few hashtags, follow 300+ people at least, and make a #introduction. Rebuilding an entire social graph takes effort, but you can break free.

I am struggling with all of these comments from tech professionals breathlessly commenting on the #twitterAlgorithm like it contains some dark secret or big scandal.
LIke… yes they have a list of republicans that they do A/B testng with. Given the "being hauled before congress" is that at all remotely surprising?
Of course the count of likes matter. That's been suspected for _years_ and is a bog standard feature.
Of _course_ they assign you into clusters, they are optimizing engagement.
Interested to hear the community’s (cc: #fosstodon ) opinions on the reason of open-sourcing parts of the #TwitterAlgorithm 🤔. I see many advantages, of course, on being transparent on how the ranking is working working. But looking behind that, what could the actual reason be in your opinion (in going open-source)? Build trust with the public? Also, can we know with certainty here, that the prts of the code are actually on production? 🫣
A but out of the loop on the details here!
Analysis of Twitter algorithm code reveals social medium down-ranks tweets about Ukraine
“With the recommendation code and API access, someone could build a tool to predict how many impressions a tweet would get.”
Another user, “seems like a terrible idea if you’re worried about large botnets which could, quite easily, be self-trained using such a model.”

Thank you—so I wasn’t going crazy! It happened to me about every other day in recent weeks.
I posted about it to try & see if it’s a “feature not a bug” but with only a few hundred “followers”, my post never saw the light of day! #twitter #twitteralgorithm #twitterfail

If you care about open source and a healthy development environment, you'll ignore the Twitter repository on GitHub and refuse to do free work for a billionaire. #twitter #twitteralgorithm #simpingforbillionaires

Now we know it’s true. Twitter has downplayed discussions surrounding the war in #Ukraine.
I suspected that there had been some sort of silencing of Ukrainian voices and I was right.

>Twitter revealed its algorithm to the world. But what does it mean for you? I spent the evening analyzing it. Here’s what you need to know:

9. Making up words or misspelling hurts
Words that are identified as “unknown language” are given 0.01, which is a huge penalty.
Anything under 1 is bad.
This is really bad. https://t.co/Bnb9ucpP2r

So Twitter revealed it’s algorithm and I am sure there will be more in-depth looks at it shortly.
Here is a first run at analysis:

The thing about this is it is also a look at ALL algorithms in the currently popular social site like FB, IG, YT, TT and LI given a few variations.
The risk of manipulation is 100x
I wonder when the masses will migrate to non-algorithmic environments for their own mental health and safety?
WHAT!? I always cited my sources using URL's on the #birdsite! Great to know there's a penalty for people that are careful about spreading #misinfo. #twitteralgorithm

Yeah, but no, but yeah.
This was pushed to main branch with no oversight? Who's managing the processing at #twitter?
Doh, sorry, forget I asked that.
Some of these #TwitterAlgorithm PRs are actually fantastic!
Except that it's written in C.
Naming the repo, “The Algorithm” is weird on its own. Releasing it as AGPL is highly suspicious. Randomly deleting features like IsDemocrat and IsRepublican on a whim really completes the picture that this is a sham to make it seem like melon is doing good things #TwitterAlgorithm
Nothing says "transparency" like deleting code and doing a force push.
Twitter published source code for its "algorithm". And immediately people began finding very important issues
