@annaleen I wanted to join wandering.shop as a result of reading @cstross blog. Someone there said it was like Usenet used to be. Unfortunately wandering.shop is only accepting people by invitation at present. Presumably because of the #Twitterdiaspora.
Mastodon is clunky presently. Maybe it’s groaning under the pressure of growing users.. #mastodon #TwitterDiaspora
Main thing I'm taking away from conversations on here about indexing, searchability & consent is that a lot more work needs to be done on figuring out how *technically* to address these issues. & that flows from increased *personal* diversity.
It's not that there are known solutions that are too hard to implement - might be more a case of needing more diverse technical inputs, coming from more diverse contributors.
If #TwitterDiaspora were to mean only 1 thing, it would be increased diversity.
I posted what will likely be my final post on Twitter just a bit ago. Dear reader, I'm not ashamed to admit that I got a little misty about it.

@stux maybe a #MastoMention - #bot or account would be cool.
Highlighting interesting accounts to follow and check out?
Making it easier for the #TwitterDiaspora and newcomers to explore #Mastodon and the #Fediverse...

Could you expand on what 'elitist' means to you in this context?
FWIW I've often used 'techno-elitist' to talk about services/modalities/etc that had relatively high initial learning curve &/or didn't do anything much to help new users adjust.
I can also see a cultural barrier on Mastodon where old guard is very sternly disapproving of some things #TwitterDiaspora users want (e.g. quote-boost) or do (we tend to make much less use of the content warning feature).
Skimming the descriptions of new Mastodon instances reminds me of reviewing proposed Stack Exchange sites on Area 51 (https://area51.stackexchange.com/). People looking for their people. #TwitterDiaspora
Elon is slashing and burning on Twt now, w all pretense of professionalism and "free speech" gone out the window. I worry more and more about the ARMY fandom at this crucial time. While it hasn't affected us directly yet, the overall direction and vibe of the platform has degraded so much -- I feel bad just using it atp. It bothers my conscience, and I think it wd bother the conscience of the members, too.

Another way to think of it: Consider the people who've been most vocal (essentially tanking for the rest of us) on advocating for QT-like modality here (or FTM criticizing the pre-#TwitterDiaspora CW norms). A lot of them are black people, who've been telling us that in practice, blocking QTs & expecting people to hide uncomfortable things like stories about racism with CWs - those expectations end up being tools of oppression.
My view on quote-boosting[/quote-tweeting] is one that's bound to make me unpopular with pre-#TwitterDiaspora: It's good, actually, & preventing it really diminishes the conversation.
Similarly, with content warnings: I've read a bunch of people telling me (via generalized, public declarations) that if I advocate something like Twitter-style quote-sharing, I'll get blocked. That idea's SO SENSITIVE in the Fediverse that it needs a CW.

Waiting on my data export, then nuking my Twitter account, tired of the new owner's antics and don't want him making money off my eyeballs. #TwitterDiaspora
If you're just going to repost stuff from #Twitter, I'm not going to un-follow you.
I came here with the #TwitterDiaspora, and I'm not going back.
Sidling in late? Or early? Or not sidling at all, really... More like, diving out of a burning airplane just before it meets the sea? Safe! #twitterdiaspora #twitter 🛩️
All true. I keep telling people that Mastodon was just in the right place at the right time to catch the #TwitterDiaspora. But it was never anything like an ideal solution. (Some have argued that it's a very bad one.)
But Elon Musks just happen. So we are where we are. Now we should make sure that where we're going can be the best place it can be a few years down the road. Anything less seems entitled and indulgent to me.
Slowly reconnecting with the people who brought life to the conversations on the Buerd App. Having spent such a long time building communities on the Buerd App, losing contact with these folks felt (feels) like a loss. We've had some of the most engaging conversations over extended periods.

These are tumultuous times as #Twitter has become increasingly unstable, the transition to #Mastodon is growing at a rapid rate as more and more people are joining the #TwitterDiaspora or #twittermigration - I just don’t know if Mastodon can grow fast enough or gain enough followers to become a significant and influential competitor in the social media realm
