I’ve raised a feature request on the #Mastodon GitHub repo, to have Two-factor authentication as part of the new account onboarding.

A simple username and #password is not enough to adequately protect an account. Whilst Mastodon supports #Twofactorauth already, it's not up front and visible to new and existing users.

We should promote good password hygiene whenever we can, and this change would contribute to this overall goal.

Really struggling with getting two factor authentication set up. Have been into all settings and preferences and account settings and can’t find it. Is it because I’m using the app/web browser? Can’t seem to find a desktop version. #TwoFactorAuth #ShieldsUp

I didn't see it the other day, but I note mstdn.social has support for hardware keys in the Two-Factor Authentication settings. This is nice. And if you don't use those, please consider use the other code-generating option to protect your account.
