I think it's kind of a big deal that a #POTUS admitted to his own white privilege in the #SOTU. Is that the first time? He described the Talk to the American people and admitted that he has never had to worry abt it with his own family, yet demands changes to policing to protect Black Americans from police violence. He also amplified the words of #TyreeNichols mom. Is there more he can do? Yes! But, tonight, I say thank you, more please. We can't change things if we can't name them.

Police kill almost as many Americans as violent crime from strangers like muggings, rapes, and robberies.

One was just revealed to have been merely relieved of duty (meaning he is still on payroll).
Can you guess the difference between the one and the five? Hint:

I haven't watched the #TyreeNichols video and I don't know if I can. I'm a grown, 39-year-old white man & even just reading about it hurts. It's hard to imagine the pain for those who see themselves, a brother, a child, again, & again, & again, in video after video.

Part of me thinks, it shouldn't take a video. There's quite literally nothing that could show up on video that justifies 5 officers beating a man to death. No crime, no probable cause, no act of resistance, could be glimpsed on camera that would make you say, I get it now.

Our country was built on public lynchings of Black folks. These events were never about justice. They were entertainment, "sport" even, scheduled, planned, premeditated. White people dressed up, posed for pictures with the murder victim, cut off body parts to take as souvenirs.
