So yes, I’m covering #Mizzou’s Pest Management Field Day east of Columbia (#CoMo ). Enjoy these photos of an aerial #drone spraying water on a #soybean field, part of a demo on using #UAVs to spray product and spread seed.

So I dug up some old drone imagery; in previous years at Walney I would do 2 drone maps on two consecutive days, and mark a gull in the same place on both as a nest. This time I'm just counting all the gulls visible.

I also found some imagery from when I was first trying out a drone and learning about mapping back in 2018, which is great - I didn't think I'd kept them, and they also fit the 0.7 multiplier

I'm comparing ground counts of large gull colonies (HG& LB mixed) with counts from drone imagery, multiplied by 0.7.

This paper by Corredigar-Castro et al https://www.mdpi.com/2072-666X/13/11/1844 suggests the 0.7 multiplier, which was the first time I've heard of it but is quite common on the continent as a multiplier for converting a count of individuals in a colony to an estimate of breeding pairs.
